A DOCTOR at Weston General Hospital who was 'sexually intimate' with a patient 'whilst on duty in the accident and emergency department' has been suspended from practising. The findings against Dr Timothy Davey, who has worked at the hospital for almost eight years, were revealed by the General Medical Council (GMC) last Monday, which investigates claims against doctors. He has since resigned from his post as a staff grade doctor at the Grange Road hospital. At a GMC hearing last week accusations of 'dishonesty', acting 'inappropriately' and 'below the standard expected of a medical practitioner' have now been determined as 'fact' by investigators. The hearing has now been adjourned until October, when it will decide whether Dr Davey is fit to continue to practise. In the meantime, the panel says 'it is necessary for the protection of members of the public' to suspend Dr Davey's registration for a period of 12 months, to be reviewed after six months.Last week the Weston & Somerset Mercury reported claims, now proven, that Dr Davey had 'pursued a sexual relationship' with a woman identified only as Miss AL, between December 2002 to around November 2003, after treating her for a knee injury at the Weston hospital.A 'fitness to practise panel' found that he 'engaged in flirtatious conversation' with Miss AL when treating her and gave her his personal mobile telephone number for an 'update on her condition'.Text messages 'of a flirtatious manner' were exchanged 'when Miss AL was treated by Dr Davey'.The report on Monday said: "Dr Davey giving Miss AL his personal mobile telephone number was inappropriate and an abuse of his position as a medical practitioner."The Weston & Somerset Mercury spoke again with Dr Davey who refused to comment saying it was a 'private matter'.A hospital spokesman acknowledged the proven allegations but declined to comment further.
