THE first competitive dodgeball league in the South West got going with a bang on Friday.

An event at Priory Community School in Worle was the first of its kind to be held in the region.

The game sees two teams of six face off on an indoor court and attempt to eliminate each member of the opposition by hitting them with a ball, in a sport popularised by Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller’s Hollywood movie.

The league is the brainchild of sports coach Sam Neat, of Turnock Gardens, West Wick, who has set it up with the blessing of the UK Dodgeball Association.

Entrants are currently being sought by the league’s organisers, who are already looking to spread the sport across the rest of the South West.

If you are interested in signing up to compete in the league, email bighitdodgeball@gmail.com or go to www.bighitdodgeball.moonfruit.com
