One person and a dog had to be rescued from mud after getting stuck near Weston-super-Mare today (Thursday).

Weston Coastguard, Burnham Area Rescue Boat and the hovercraft team were dispatched to Uphill at lunchtime amid reports people were in difficulties.

Busby, a frightened spaniel, had got stuck in the mud, as had somebody who had been close by.

A Weston Coastguard spokesman said: “We always advise dog owners not to put themselves at risk and to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
