PART of Weston's beach is now off limits to dogs, after the council introduced a ban for the busiest part of the holiday season.

The ban, which covers the area of the beach from the Grand Pier to Royal Sands, will be in place from now until September 30, while extra bins for dog waste and litter have also been installed along the seafront.

North Somerset Council’s principal environment officer Dee Mawn said: “In common with many other seaside resorts our main beach is a no-go area for dogs during the busiest part of the holiday season.

“If owners want to exercise their pets on the beach then they can from Royal Sands up to Uphill. Our rangers were out and about at the weekend and had to ask more than 50 people to take their dogs off the beach.”

The area around Marine Lake has remained a designated no dogs area, as it is all year round.
