THERE are fears that pooches in the Burnham area could be in danger from thieves.Workers at the Missing Pets Bureau fear that, following a series of high profile dog thefts in London and the South East, the crime could have spread.A Staffordshire bull terrier was stolen from the Knight family home in Burnham last week and has not been seen since. The Knights fear he may have been taken to Bristol to be sold.The thieves climbed over an eight-foot fence surrounded by 30ft pine trees to get the dog and took him off in their red Volkswagen Golf.The Missing Pets Bureau has reported a 141 per cent rise in the number of dogs stolen last year.The organisation recommends dog owners use secure pet ID tags and have their pet microchipped. The bureau says people should secure their gardens and be careful who they buy a dog from.If anyone has any information on the Knight family's missing dog they should call 0800 0198123.
