Disgraced former PC Darren Lumber has appealed to a special police tribunal in a last ditch effort to get reinstated. The former Kewstoke community beat officer was removed from his post following an investigation after reports he had been 'dogging on duty' in a Sand Bay car park.Dogging is the act of having sex or watching people have sex in a public place. He denies the allegation and asked Avon and Somerset's top police officer to look again at the decision. But chief constable Colin Port carried out a review of the case and concluded the hearing was conducted fairly and the outcome was justified and appropriate. An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: "Mr Lumber has been given notice to the police appeals tribunal and it is now up to the Avon and Somerset Police Authority to appoint a chairman and deal with the matter."A Weston mother-of-two told the Weston & Somerset Mercury earlier this year that she had been approached at Sand Bay a year ago by the former Wyvern Community School pupil while she was with a friend. She told the newspaper Lumber said he was not there to move them on and asked if they wanted to go somewhere quieter. She said: "The police officer then suggested we follow him round to the back of the toilets." The friend was a marine currently serving overseas in Afghanistan.According to the police's initial investigation in September senior officers discovered Lumber's alleged indiscretion after the marine was overheard bragging to his mates in Weston. At the time the force's assistant chief constable Steve Mortimore said: "This officer's behaviour is quite disgraceful."He breached the code of conduct and its values and more importantly the public's confidence and trust in him.
