Weston-super-Mare is expecting thousands of visitors from around the world to come to the town to experience the exhibition and North Somerset Council has decided to use the McLaren life site – which is due for a £45million development with shopping, restaurants and entertainment – as a temporary car park.

The bank holiday weekend is due to bring in extra visitors on top of those coming for the exhibition and high tides mean parking on the beach will be limited.

A spokesman from the council said: “The car park will hold about 350 cars. It will be an overflow car park so people will not be able to choose to go there first. We will direct them there when other car parks are full.”

The car park is being made ready for the weekend and will be open for the duration of the exhibition, from 10.30am until 4pm each day. It will cost £5 per car with an entrance in Union Street. Pedestrian access will be via Carlton Street.
