SCALY creatures will be swooping into Cheddar Reservoir this summer, as the Dragon Boat Race returns to Axbridge. On June 23, families have been invited for a fun day out to cheer on the dragon boats and support a worthy cause. This year's race, organised by the Rotary Club of Mendip, will raise money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, who will hopefully bring along a helicopter to the event. Last year an It's a Knockout competition was held instead of the race, which raised £3,500 for the British Institute of Brain Injured Children (BIBIC). BIBIC chief executive Julie Spencer-Cingoz was presented with a cheque last Thursday at the Bath Arms in Cheddar by members of the Rotary club. For more information about the race, or to register a team, call Alan Parfitt on 01934 732403.
