Postmistress Carolyn Leach donned a costume along with other staff members and her husband Phil for two days at the end of last month.

In return for the amusement provided, customers gave donations to the Backwell Playing Fields Charity.

As a result, £218 was collected - up on last year's total of £125.

Phil Leach said: "We wanted to do this for the playing fields charity as it provides an incredible resource for the whole of the community.

"We had some good comments from customers and many were surprised to see me dressed as a woman.
