The driver involved in a crash in Weston-super-Mare town centre this morning (Monday) managed to escape without injury, according to Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

The silver car crashed and careered into a lamppost on Hildesheim Bridge this morning at about 5.40am.

The vehicle came to rest in the outbound carriageway and police had to clear the road while the debris was cleared.

An electrical engineer also had to be called to the scene to make sure the area was safe.

A police spokesman said only one car was involved and the driver sustained no injuries in the accident.

No arrests have been made in connection with the accident either.

The road was reopened at 7.52am.
