A CAR hit a tree leaving the driver trapped inside with bits of wood in his leg.

The accident happened on the B3151 between Wedmore and Westhay near Cheddar on Monday.

Fire crews from Cheddar and Glastonbury were called after the ambulance service alerted them to the one-vehicle road collision at 11.10am.

When they arrived, fire crews made the car stable in order to careful get the male driver out of the vehicle. The man was then strapped to a spinal board and taken to hospital via air ambulance to Bath Royal United Hospital.

His injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
