Discipline, perseverance, dependability, composure, courage and pride were demonstrated in abundance as eight talented finalists competed to be named Churchill Young Musician of the Year 2010 on Monday.

St John's the Baptist Church was the setting for an event organised by Churchill Music in partnership with Churchill Foundation School.

The joint winners were Stacey Bartlett (vocals) and Chris Preddy (trumpet), who impressed prestigious judges from the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music.

Both received a generous cheque from an anonymous sponsor, together with the opportunity to perform at a lunchtime concert at one of this country's most prestigious chamber music venues, St George's Bristol.

The Churchill Music Audience Trophy was won by Anne Payne (marimba) who will also have the opportunity to perform at St George's.
