More than 450 people enjoyed a delicious lunch and entertainment at East Brent Harvest Home.

It was the parish’s 160th harvest home and there was a parade along Bridgwater Road into the marquee.

Men carried an 80-100lb block of cheese, which had been specially made by the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company, and a 6ft loaf of bread created by Maisey’s Bakery in Highbridge.

Dozens of Christmas puddings were also served up by the event’s 60-strong army of volunteers.

Colin Loader, chair of the harvest home committee, said: “It was a beautiful sunny day. I think everybody enjoyed themselves – we had a wonderful lunch.”

After the luncheon there was entertainment, including a magician and sports games.

Guests also heard from Mary James, who has been farming since 1970 and is involved with the National Farmers Union, and Alan Lyons, head of shows for the Royal Bath and West Show.
