A CLASSIC TV theme tune has been updated by a Weston College music student.
The famous guitar riff which introduces TV coverage of the World Snooker championships was remixed by 17-year-old Omar Al-Hinai.
The invitation came to music technology lecturer Tony Hobden, who passed it on to students.
He said: “Omar was first back with his version and I thought it was very good, so I sent it to the company and they commissioned it.”
The tune was originally called Drag Racer and was recorded by the Doug Wood Band in 1976.
Omar said: “I worked on it for a couple of days. I speeded it up and added a few up-to-date influences, including a breakbeat. I was shocked when it was chosen, because quite a few people had submitted their version of it.”
Omar’s remix will now be aired on TV commercials promoting the championships, and can be heard on ITV and Sky.
