WORLE Community School was granted 2.5million of funding for a community sport and learning difficulties facility by executive councillors on Tuesday.
The project, backed by North Somerset Council, will include facilities such as a football pitch with flood-lighting, a gym, changing rooms and a caf and kitchen, which will be available to the school and local community.
The day-care services currently provided at the William Knowles centre in Weston and at Banwell Pottery will move to the new centre at Worle School, where Brandon Trust will continue to provide these services on behalf of the council.
Leader of the council, Nigel Ashton, said: “This is a win-win project for everyone, benefiting the school, the users of the William Knowles Centre and the local community.”
Work will start on site next year with the new centre opening in 2013, subject to planning permission being granted.
