PASSIONATE village youth workers were thrilled to officially open Congresbury’s new cyber caf on Friday.

The facility for village youngsters offers activities and fun-packed sessions during the school terms and holidays for different age groups, allowing children a safe place to play with friends at a cost of 1 per session.

The cyber cafe is run by the Congresbury Youth Partnership and was set up in 2000 by volunteers and well-known village residents Alex Ballard, Ian Sheppard and the late Tony Sullivan.

It offers a wide range of opportunities and after asking children what trips they would like to do it helps to put the wheels in motion.

From Christmas bingo and Halloween baking to bowling, golf and pantomime trips, there are many activities lined up for the rest of the year.

The cyber caf has fast broadband connected PCs and video games systems and has been newly relocated to Recreation Club in Stonewell Drive.

However, as successful as it is, organisers are appealing for more adult volunteers.

Cyber cafe manager Sam Perry said: “It’s important to let young people have the opportunity to try new things but we could still do with more volunteers.

“After giving a presentation at the local school the year three and four children showed a real interest in the cyber caf but we don’t have enough volunteers to help us run this.”
