CARD sharks from a Backwell school have been showing off their new skills in a mini bridge tournament.
Pupils from Fairfield School finished sixth, 21st and 27th out of more than 100 pupils in a nationwide competition run by the English Bridge Union.
The youngsters have only been playing for a year and were even more surprised with their achievements when it showed an administrative error had put the children in an adults competition.
Teacher Alex Plumb, who leads the mini bridge club, said: "I am delighted that the children performed so well.
"We were amazed when we found out that they had been matched against adult mini bridge players."
Staff are now keen to hear from any other local schools who play so they can set up matches.
Any schools interested can call Farfield School on 01275 462743.
