TWO Weston hairdressing apprentices are preparing for a national competition which could see them test their skills on a world stage.

Weston College apprentices Laura Henson and Kelly-Marie Frost, both aged 18, who work in the salons Broad Street Hair in Backwell and Congresbury, have made it through to the South West regional contest being held at Bristol College on Monday.

The college’s head of apprentices in beauty, hair, barbering and nails, Tanita Veal, said: “The top 10 highest scoring competitors regionally will go on to the final competition at the NEC in Birmingham in November and they have done extremely well to get this far.”

The apprentices aim to be chosen to take part in the WorldSkills UK Team and around 5,500 young people compete for a place in the British squad.
