Peter Hawkings will receive 250 for his sixth form to help fund his studies and the school design technology department will also get a donation.
Peter said: "I'm sure this will be of great benefit to my future studies and it will give me an opportunity to develop my design and engineering skills."
The Arkwright Tryst was developed in 1991 by a group of headteachers to promote design technology among year 11 students.
This year more than 770 pupils applied for scholarship, with 386 being shortlisted for interview.
