YOUNGSTERS got the chance to get up close to the Olympic Torch when a torchbearer visited their school as part of its sport week.

Ashcombe Primary School in Earlham Grove hosted Sarah Clarke, an official torchbearer who went to school in Weston’s Oldmixon estate.

Then pupils had a torch relay through the school’s grounds before getting the chance to see it up close.

The event was part of the school’s Olympics week.

Deputy head Pam Withers said: “Sarah was an inspiration for the children about what they could do, and they were excited about seeing the torch.”
