Axbridge Town Council is striving to become a dementia friendly community and Wincombe Hall Care Centre is supporting the authority by providing clinical expertise.

To raise awareness with the younger generation, staff from the care centre donated seven memory trees to Axbridge First School, along with lots of paper butterflies.

Pupils learnt about care, kindness and memories and were then given the chance to write messages on the paper butterflies and hang them from the trees.

Ty Yilmaz, chief executive from Winscombe Hall Care Centre, and Annie Cowell visited the school. Annie said: “When Ty and I read the messages we were moved to tears. The children had written about loved ones, their feelings and how important kindness and love is.”
