SIX thousand bricks are ready for 50 bricklayers to compete to be named best in the West at an open day at Weston College.

The college’s construction and engineering centre of excellence, based in Locking Road, will host the Weston region guild of bricklayers competition, in partnership with Bradfords Building Supplies, on May 25.

It is an opportunity for all regional colleges to send a learner and experienced bricklayer, as well as students aged 14-16 from secondary schools in Weston.

The centre will also stage an interactive trade show with prizes and offer visitors a chance to try their hand at various trades and tools.

Any money raised at the open day, which is held from 9am-5pm, will go towards the college’s educational visits and charity.
