HUNDREDS of schoolgirls from across North Somerset will gather at a Weston school next week in the name of science.
The event, organised by Weston Soroptimists, Aspire Partnership and the Hans Price Academy, will feature a series of workshops to help encourage young women to embark upon a career in the subject.
A total of 250 girls from secondary schools across the district will attend the Skirting Science initiative on Friday, including pupils from Worle, Priory and Churchill community schools.
A spokesman from Skirting Science said: “It’s vital that more girls consider careers in science.
“It isn’t easy but we need the best brains, male and female, to be the scientists of tomorrow.”
The event will take place at the Hans Price Academy in Marchfields Way and attendees will learn about various aspects of science, from creating perfume to building DNA threads.
Dr Preeti Kaur, from Bristol University, will also give a talk to the girls about her career in the world of science.
The project has also been awarded £500 from the Weston Community Services Committee.
