Broth, dogs and Scottish dress for literary day

YOUNGSTERS cooked Scottish broth and dressed as literary characters for a themed day of learning based around a series of children’s books.

Katie Morag day, based on the series of books by Mairi Hedderwick, saw six and seven-year-old pupils from Ashbrooke House School in Ellenborough Park North exercise their maths and geography knowledge while enjoying activities based around the novels.

The series, set on fictional Scottish islands, sees one character with a collie dog – so teacher Hazel Preller brought her own in to help bring the books to life.

She said: “The children all had an absolutely fabulous day, and they all really enjoyed it. It’s definitely something we are looking to do next year.”
