PUPILS are becoming more aware of their rights as children in school.

Children at the school in Baker Street are the first school in North Somerset to be presented with a Rights Respecting Schools Award.

The initiative is run by UNICEF and helps the school community to use the United Nations convention on the rights of a child to encourage the idea of responsibilities.

Pupils were presented with the award by MP John Penrose last week.

Year six pupils have put up displays around the school for children explaining their rights and responsibilities.
