A YEAR of hard work has finally paid off for parents, teachers and children after a new playground was installed at a Somerset school this week.

Burrington Church of England Primary School’s Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) has been fundraising for the last year to raise the £8,000 needed to refurbish the playground.

Now the school has a new outdoor classroom, seating area, performance space, bamboo fencing and an artificial grass play area.

Children helped design it and have already enjoyed an outdoor assembly in the playground.

It was opened to a trumpet fanfare by three pupils when it was opened with head Alison Waite.

She said: “They all worked together to decide what they wanted in the playground.

“They wanted somewhere quiet that they could sit in but was still interesting.

“The children absolutely love it and everybody at the school is pleased.”
