A North Somerset school is celebrating its 60th year this week, sparking a jam-packed programme of events to mark the anniversary.

The first entry into Churchill Academy’s register took place on January 14, 1957, and thousands of pupils have passed through its classrooms since.

A series of events will be held to mark the school’s diamond jubilee, including charity collections and fun activities, culminating in a gala dinner in September to ‘celebrate Churchill throughout the ages’.

The school has seen plenty of structural changes in its time, and more are to follow with a new business block being built and funding is being sought to build a new science facility.

Headteacher, Chris Hildrew, said: “This outstanding school has always had a reputation for great education.

“Thousands of students have passed through the doors since the school first opened, and Churchill will be asking alumni to get in touch to help celebrate during this landmark year.”
