WESTON College and the town’s football club have signed a five-year deal with the aim of becoming the best football-education partnership in the country.

The college and Weston Football Club have teamed up to award five sports bursaries worth £500 each.

The link will see budding young footballers trained and put through their paces by staff at both the college and club.

The college’s sports coordinator, Sabrina Page, said: “Engaging other organisations is essential.

“We look forward to developing the relationship between Weston College and Weston Football Club and becoming the best football partnership in the country.”

One student who was awarded a bursary, 17-year-old Dan Jackson, said: “Weston College is the most successful club with under-19s and I came here because of the reputation of its football programme. It has been everything I expected.”
