The construction company working on the Winter Gardens development has expressed ‘delight’ at the project and is deciding to give back to the community at the same time.
Weston College’s development of the iconic Winter Gardens site includes plans to restore the pavilion and revamp part of the building as a law and professional services academy and a new university centre.
The ballroom and wings of the original 1920s structure will be refurbished and remain dedicated to public use.
As well as the extensive work, construction company Midas is keen to support the college with work experience and training schemes while the company is on site.
Derek Quinn, executive director at Midas Construction, said: “There is a real focus on delivering local training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the Weston area during this scheme, which is one of the southern construction frameworks key objectives.
“During the course of this build we will have a huge amount of activity going on to support the development of skills in the local community and to deliver work experience opportunities.
“We will be supporting 11 work placements, 11 NVQ starts or completions with our local subcontractors.”
The whole development is set to be completed by September 2017.
