More than 150 construction students had to showcase their skills and compete under pressure at Weston College.

The Weston-super-Mare pupils competed in four areas: brickwork, maintenance operations, carpentry and general construction.

The college’s curriculum manager of construction and engineering Shaun Canniford said the event enabled students to showcase skills learned during their first term.

He added: “This has given the students the opportunity to recognise their own achievements over the term and has also allowed them to experience working under pressure to a commercial standard and having to employ a range of essential employability skills.”
