A Weston-super-Mare church is holding cooking sessions to teach people the skills they can use in the kitchen.

St Paul’s Church, in Walliscote Road, is running classes on Tuesdays at 1pm to teach people how to cook healthy food on a budget.

The sessions have proved popular with those who want to improve their skills at home and move into a catering career.

Representatives from Weston College visited the church to find out about its project.

Vice principal Jacqui Ford said: “We think it is a wonderful venture.

“Promoting healthy eating is an important thing which can help people to learn about diet and nutrition, ultimately leading to them living healthier and longer lives.

“The sessions have also helped some people realise their passion for food, an are working with them to provide further courses which will expand their cater abilities and could even lead to employment in the catering industry.”

Graham Smith, development manager for adult and community learning at Weston College, added: “Cooking is so much more than putting food on a plate. Food is about

bringing people together, eating together and enjoying great company.”
