THE company in charge of the Locking Parklands development has launched an apprenticeship scheme with Weston College.

And an 18-year-old from nearby Locking Grove is the first person to take advantage of the college’s new link with St Modwen, after starting an apprenticeship in bricklaying at the site.

Ben Scoins, an apprentice studying a diploma and level 2 NVQ in brickwork at the college, is one of five apprentices who will start practical apprenticeships at the 200 acre site this summer, with a view to completing their courses.

Another 20 college students will have work experience placements with St Modwen at the site in the next year in subjects such as plumbing, plastering, carpentry and site management.
