Former pupil’s birthday donation to pay for more school books

One of the first pupils to attend Windwhistle primary has made a generous donation to the school to mark its 60th birthday.

Alan Richardson was a pupil at the school when it first opened in 1958.

He said: “I have so many fond memories of being at Windwhistle School, having been a pupil when they first opened,

“The excitement of being at a new school, and also a number of teachers spring to mind.”

Mr Richardson was invited into the school in 2015 to see his name in the old register and the school sends him Christmas cards each year.

He said: “I was unable to go along to the 50th celebration, so it seemed very opportune in its 60th year to make a small gesture.

“Reading, writing and maths are quite a focus for the school. That is why I am delighted to donate to the reading scheme supporting Windwhistle.”

The donation was spent on more books for the library.
