A VILLAGE primary school has banned the use of drinking fountains in the interests of health and safety, the
Mercury can reveal.

Bosses at Locking Primary School have decided to ditch the water
facilities in the fear they could spread germs among pupils.

Instead, the school has introduced four water taps for children to bring in bottles to fill up.

Headteacher Joanne Jones said: “It’s not crazy, it’s common sense.

“The new water fountains mean children are no longer sharing water by using their lips, but bottles.

“It is about keeping the spread of germs to a minimum.”

In a recent newsletter to parents, the school urged pupils to bring in empty bottles for the fountains so they could stay hydrated this summer.
