PUPILS at a Somerset school were celebrating after the hard work finally paid off on results day.

Eager students showed up at 9am today (Thurs) to rip open their envelopes and see what grades they earned after years of study.

The Kings of Wessex Academy in Station Road, Cheddar, was awash with tears, hugs and happy faces as the youngsters planned for the future.

Assistant headteacher Christian Hughes said: “We are very proud to be celebrating our students achievements with 88 per cent of students in year 11 achieving five or more A* to C grades in their exams – which compares very favourably with the national result of 68 per cent.”

In 2013, 93 per cent of students in Year 11 achieved five or more A* to C grades.
