DRESSES and suits – including a striking orange number – were on show as King Alfred School in Highbridge held its annual sixth form ball last Friday.

More than 130 students celebrated the end of their exams, and in many cases their school life, at the glamorous event at the Webbington Hotel in Loxton, where 12 staff also joined them to help see out the year.

The evening was organised by the school’s sixth form committee, who decided on a capital cities theme for proceedings.

Headteacher Denise Hurr told the Mercury: “The students have all worked very hard, and the prom is the end of their time within the school community for many of those here.

“Some fantastic offers have come through from universities from some of these guys, and they deserve nights like this.

“It’s a fantastic way to end on and a real high for them, and for the staff to share it with them. They see each other in a different light and it’s always good for them to say thank you after the hard work they’ve been through together.”
