GRAND plans to create a multi-million pound sports and leisure complex on a prime Worle site have been unveiled.

A blueprint for the indoor swimming pool, FA-accredited indoor football dome, dance studio, coffee bar, gym, tennis courts and new changing rooms at Priory Community School has been drawn up by architects.

Headteacher Neville Coles has employed professionals to create the vision for the area to the side of the Queens Way school, around the site where the red-gra pitch currently stands.

Only the money for the first of the seven phases is available at the moment, £260,000, but Mr Coles is in talks with business people and the FA about possible funding for the rest of the project.

Working alongside him on the exciting scheme is senior vice principal Martin Kerslake.

Mr Kerslake said: “We are keen to develop sporting facilities for both students and members of the community.

“With about £200,000 available in funding from developer contributions following the redevelopment of the old playing fields, the school is keen to adopt a phased approach to developing the site.

“The focus is now on considering what could be included in phase one and the school welcomes any offers of help whether that involves working on a leisure development committee or financial contributions to the project.”

Priory Community School has been in negotiations with North Somerset Council over the past few years over section 106 money from developers that Mr Coles said it was entitled to.

The unitary authority has now given the school about £200,000, which it will put towards completing phase one this year, subject to planning consent.
