Pupils at a Weston-super-Mare school have performed ‘brilliantly’ in an academic challenge.

Students from Hans Price Academy, in Marchfield Way, put their maths skills to the test and went head to head with more than 250,000 youngsters from across the UK in the Junior Maths Challenge.

Children in year seven and eight took part in the challenge, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, earlier this term and 20 of the students were presented with awards for their performance.

Year eight student Max Withers was in the top six per cent in the country, and received agold certificate, while five students collected silver awards and 14 were handed bronze.

Teacher Anne Bull said: “The students did brilliantly I would like to congratulate them for all their hard work and efforts.”

The competition is organised by the UK Mathematics Trust, a charity which aims to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics.
