King Alfred School celebrates successful week
PUBLISHED: 13:00 07 October 2016
Prospective students from across Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge were welcomed to King Alfred School for its open evening, in the same week it celebrated receiving a geography award.
There were a variety of displays on offer for students, and their families, to enjoy and headteacher Denise Hurr was on hand to make a number of presentations to the potential intake.
However, this was an open evening with a difference, as children and their parents were invited to enter a grand draw to win a host of prizes, including some snazzy cycling helmets. The winners were picked at random by Mrs Hurr and the victorious students were Bethan Sinclair, Rebecca Hall and Jack Cushion.
The prizes were donated by Tesco and Halfords and the presentation followed a tour of the school.
This follows a positive week for King Alfred, after its geography department was handed a centre of excellence award for the third year in a row.
The award is given to schools which show a good framework of curriculum and encourage creative thinking while teaching the subject.
It recognises the ‘department’s contribution to geography at the highest level.’
