Five students from King Alfred Academy in Highbridge have won places at Oxford university's prestigious summer school.

Taj and Olivia (pictured), Kizzie, Thomas and Freja have all won places at the summer school residential course after an 'amazing set of exam results'.

Olivia also founded King Alfred's Jill Dando News Centre at the age of 12 and Taj has also won a place at a similar summer school run by Harvard University. They both hope to study medicine.

Kizzie will study English literature, Thomas will go on to learn maths and Freja will study geography.

The sixth form at King Alfred is part of The Priory Learning Trust and has attracted many students from schools in Weston and Bridgwater to learn there.

Head of sixth form, Jonathan Gaskell, said: "Many congratulations to all these students.

"These places are extremely hard to win and they are very well deserved.

"Our sixth form has a 100 per cent pass rate, with 80 per cent going on to learn at Russell Group universities."
