Maths students compete nationally

MATHEMATICIANS from Weston College have shown off their quick-thinking skills in an A-level challenge.

Students from Weston-super-Mare’s college took part in the UKMT Senior Challenge, an annual event which sees thousands of maths students compete from different colleges around the country.

Members of the team from Weston had to tackle 25 tough maths questions.

Their teacher Ryan Aves said: “Our students achieved an excellent set of results with all further maths students being recognised with certificates, which were awarded to the top 40 per cent of entrants.

“A special mention must go to both Joshua Cottle and Thomas Hale for achieving the Best In Year certificates. Tom’s impressive score has meant he has been selected to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad.”
