One of the most famous pieces of silverware in the world of sport thrilled youngsters in Worle when it went on display at their school’s summer fete this week.

Mendip Green Primary School welcomed the Premier League trophy on Saturday, after it topped a nationwide parent vote to become one of only two schools to earn a visit.

The trophy became a star attraction at an event which featured traditional favourites including a beat the goalie competition and a chance to throw wet sponges at teachers.

Biggest queue of the day was spotted at the barbecue – while overall efforts helped raised a whopping £6,000 for school funds.

A school spokesman said: “All the money raised by the PTA, children, families and the community is being put to good use to enhance the fun and learning at Mendip Green.

“We have many ideas but improving our sports facilities is big on our list.

“From all at Mendip Green, we would like to thank everyone that contributed and made the fete the fantastic success it was.”
