PLANS for expanding Weston College are afoot as a result of its ‘tremendous success’.
A planning application to extend the university campus in Loxton Road has been submitted to North Somerset Council, in a bid to give the increasing amount of students more learning space.
If approved the development will see a new two-storey extension built and will provide four new large classrooms.
As the college campus, which was built in 2006, is now a teaching centre for the design and installation of photovoltaic solar panels, it also wants to take advantage of this by installing them on the would-be new south facing sloped roof.
Principal Dr Paul Phillips said: “When the campus was first designed space was left to create a further wing of classrooms.
“The tremendous success of the university campus means that the college is now considering a further expansion of learning resources and for this reason an initial planning application has been submitted.”
Members of the public have until March 4 to comment on the plans.
The new building will take up 302 sq ft and is designed by Bristol based company Arturus Architects Ltd.
