PUPILS took part in a potato planting competition in order to raise funds for their school chickens.

Youngsters from Shipham First School in Turnpike Road planted potato seeds at home before bringing the plants back to school and weighing them to find the largest prize spud.

They also raised money for the upkeep of chickens Jolly and Chestnut in the process.
