AIR raid drills and sing-along sessions to wartime ditties were all part of the curriculum during a themed fortnight at a primary school.

Youngsters at Milton Park Primary School in Milton dressed in 1940s clothing and practised evacuating their classrooms during the two weeks, which was designed to teach the children all about World War Two.

A spokesman for the school said: “They were evacuated out of classrooms, had assemblies in the playground and we made gas masks.

“Everyone was dressed up, even the staff. We had a museum as well, children brought in artefacts from their great-grandparents and items were donated by the teachers.

“The children have learned lots of wartime songs and have been singing them in the assemblies as well.”

A VE Day celebration is being held today (Thursday) at the school, and pupils have prepared speciality dishes from the era to share with their classmates.
