YOUNGSTERS at Banwell Primary School held their own Olympic torch relay around some of the most well-known sites in the village.

Pupils were even given a genuine Olympic torch for the circuit by Banwell guides group leader Carys Davies, who recently carried it through Ilchester as part of the national relay.

She has been involved in the village’s guide, rainbow and brownie units since 2009, and is also a volunteer for the National Autistic Society.

The torch visited St Andrew’s Church, the old fire station, the war memorial, the village hall and the bowling green on its route, before the school held its own opening ceremony.
