Children from a North Somerset school laced up their running shoes this week, taking part in a marathon effort to raise money for new technology.

Banwell Primary School held a running challenge for its students on Friday in the hope of raising £4,000 to upgrade its kit.

The pupils cumulatively ran 12.75 marathons around the school grounds after being sponsored by friends and family.

The idea was inspired by parent Lucie Weston, aged 41, who ran the Prague Marathon on May 7 to raise money for the school.

Several businesses sponsored the students, with Il Michelangelo, Banwell Co-operative, Future Stars, Court Farm and Headcases donating £1,000 in total.

Jules Pythian, of the Friends of Banwell Primary School, said: “We want to buy laptops and iPads for a full class of 30 pupils.

“New technology is crucial to the advancement of the students learning. The list of benefits is endless.”
