A school canteen and science block could be extended and refurbished so it has the space to take on additional pupils.

Priory Community School, in Worle, wants to increase its capacity from 1,260 students to 1,500.

It is already building a new £2.5million science block, but has applied for permission to alter the old science block so it can also be used as classrooms.

School leaders also want to expand the canteen.

Priory, which is part of the Priory Learning Trust and based in Queensway, was oversubscribed again this year, receiving 597 applications for its 256 year seven places.

If the plan is approved by North Somerset Council, the school will keep its outdoor dining area.

Planning application documents say: “We believe this application offers the school and the local community the opportunity to build upon the success of the school.”
