STUDENTS at King Alfred’s School in Highbridge got lessons with a distinctly international feel after a teacher flew 4,000 miles to take lessons.
Kenyan geography teacher Peter Lusi arrived at the school as part of charity Plan UK’s school linking programme, and showed students a video of his school, answered questions about his school, Kandaria Mixed Secondary School, and his first impressions of the UK.
King Alfred’s head of geography, Catherine Owen, said: “Both staff and students have been inspired by hearing Peter speak about his school and his home.
“Many of my students expected Peter to want to leave Kenya and move to the UK, but the way he’s spoken about his life in Kenya, with such evident love of his home, has tackled their misconceptions in a way that reading books or watching videos could never do.”
