SIXTY schoolchildren were invited to Weston's Grand Pier this week for an end-of-term celebration in return for the warm welcome they offered to one of the attraction's owners.

Michelle Michael - who co-owns the landmark with brother Kerry - officially opened the new-look Ashcombe Primary School in November.

And in return for the ‘fantastic hospitality’ she was shown by the Earlham Grove school’s 420 pupils, she invited the year six leavers to enjoy a free celebration on the pier on Monday.

Ms Michael said: “I was delighted to open the new school earlier this year and thought it would be fitting to invite this year’s leavers to come and enjoy a fun night on the rides at the Grand Pier.

“It will be something they will remember for a long time, as they embark of the next stage of their education”.

Headteacher Peter Turner said: “The students have been magnificent all year and we are
so grateful to the Grand Pier for helping them to spend their last day in style.”
